3D observations of nano-structures in soft materials by electron tomography

For better understanding of various properties, e.g., mechanical, electrical, transport properties, in soft materials, detailed characterization of their morphologies in three-dimension(3D)is essential. We have developed electron tomography, a novel microscopic method to image nano-scale structures in 3D, and applied them to various self-assembling structures in soft materials. In addition to the 3D imaging capability of electron tomography, another "dimension", e.g., time, temperature, wet environment etc., will be added to observe 3D structures in various environmental and dynamical processes in soft materials.
